Services for Media and the Arts
Indy Arts provides fiscal sponsorship, networking and educational services to individuals and organizations whose work uses media and the arts to advance free expression, freedom of information, public dialogue and civic participation:
Fiscal Sponsorship
Independent Arts & Media offers fiscal sponsorship to individuals, collectives and emerging organizations seeking support from major funding sources that only make grants to projects with nonprofit status.
Networking & Community Building
By connecting people and organizations, Indy Arts increases resource-sharing, collaboration and productivity in the media, journalism, arts and culture sectors.
- The Expo for Independent Arts: 10 years in 2009. The Expo is the Bay Area's only grassroots connection fair for independent arts, music and culture.
- Innovations in Journalism 2008: Our debut journalism expo was a collaboration with the Society of Professional Journalists-Northern California and Indy Arts. Stay tuned for updates on a 2009 follow-up.
- Speaker, panel and dialogue events: Partners have included the World Affairs Council, the Commonwealth Club, the Associated Press Managing Editors, Shaping San Francisco, Arts Forum SF and KUSF-FM. All programs include podcasts in 2007.
Education & Mentorship
Our growing education and mentorship services connect people with resources and expertise already in the community, building networks and deepening mutual aid.
- DIY Workshops in the Arts: We've staged dozens of free, hands-on training and workshop events, skill-shares and swap meets for independent artists, musicians and culture workers.
- Youth Arts Mentoring: A new program produced in partnership with the San Francisco International Arts Festival. The pilot effort debuted at June Jordan Equity School in San Francisco in Fall 2008, and featured award-winning author Paul Flores leading students in a hip-hop program teaching critical thinking and spoken and written literacy.
