Independent Arts & Media proudly The 10th Annual Expo for Independent Arts, Saturday, September 26, 11am-6pm, on the Music Concourse, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California. This is the Bay Area’s only grassroots connection fair for independent arts, music & culture. This year’s theme is Art Works when Artists Work!, Creativity ~ Culture ~ Community.

We think of The Expo for Independent Arts as a giant Show and Tell for art, music, performance and culture projects to engage with the public, gain recognition and hopefully new audiences and supporters.

    Join us!

Saturday, September 26, 2009 we take over the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park with up to 200 exhibiting art organizations, our Fifth Annual Performance Showcase, a live mural project, sculpture garden and a very real possibility of up to 5000 attendees!

    WHAT DOES PARTICIPATION MEAN?

Arts Organizations who register for Exhibiting Tables can distribute literature, display information about their organization or project, collect information from potential supporters and engage directly with the public.

WHEN IS THE EXPO? WHEN IS SET UP? WHEN IS BREAK DOWN?

WHERE WILL MY ORGANIZATION /PROJECT BE AT THE EXPO?

If your project /organization falls into more than one category, please let us know which Grove you would like to be in. A map will also be published to help you find your table and then help attendees find you.

WHY SHOULD MY ORGANIZATION /PROJECT EXHIBIT AT THE EXPO?

So glad you asked. Art is essential. Art doesn’t fail in a bad economy. Art Works when Artists Work! Since the year 2000, Indy Arts has created a special place for independent art projects to engage with the public. In this, our tenth year, we want to show that despite a troubled economy Independent Art continues to thrive in The San Francisco Bay Area. And did we mention the very real possibility of up to 5000 attendees?

HOW DO I SIGN UP? HOW CAN I HELP?

That’s easy. Go to our Eventbrite registration page and sign up, and then watch for emails with more information as the day draws near. Then, RSVP on our Facebook page and then share it with your friends, encourage other Arts organizations and projects to come exhibit, and tell everyone you know to come out on September 26th. Join Us! Meet interesting moderately neurotic people! Be one of those who can say, “I helped make it all happen!”

EXPO for Independent Arts 2009 – Now a 2-day event!

    Share/Save/Bookmark

Since the year 2000, Independent Arts & Media, (Indy Arts) has produced an Expo specifically for independent artists and art organizations of all sizes, and genres. What started out as an indoor event with just 80 exhibiting organizations has now grown to fill the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park. We couldn’t be more excited about this growth, but we had to ask ourselves, is this too much? Sure, Golden Gate Park is a great venue, but how will the new venue effect the artists who come to network? And what about the DIY workshops that have always had a presence at the Expo?

These are good questions indeed, and to answer them we have added a second event to the Expo, specifically for artists: The Expo for Independent Arts Symposium.

This very special event is designed specifically for artists of all kinds, and will address the theme of this year’s Expo, Art Works when Artists Work. We are in a very special time and place this discussion. There is an energetic buzz about the role of art in civic dialogue, a renewed interest in community driven art, and an undeniable inclination for projects that are both innovative and entrepreneurial.

The Expo for Independent Arts Symposium will create a special space for artists to engage in this larger conversation through panel discussions, network opportunities and of course DIY workshops. We have brought on Yesenia Sanchez, a previous Indy Arts workshop presenter to produce this amazing event.

Stay tuned! Full details for The Expo for Independent Arts Symposium are coming soon!

EXPO for Independent Arts 2009 – Behind the Scenes

It’s Expo time again. Save the date!

On September 26, 2009 we will throw our biggest, baddest event yet. What started in the year 2000 at Cell Space has grown to fill the Music Concourse in San Francisco’s majestic Golden Gate Park. This year, our Tenth Year, we plan on hosting 200+ art organizations of all sizes and genres. We will present our 5th Annual Performance Showcase. And, we are proud to announce the introduction of The Four Corners Mural Project, an exhibition of live art, and a planned sculpture garden.

But that’s not all. We realized that a day in the park is great to meet people, and promote independent art endeavors of all kinds, but to really serve artists, we have added a second, very special event. This year we very proud to introduce the Expo for Independent Arts Symposium, which will be on Friday, September 25th. The Symposium will offer workshops, panel discussions and networking opportunities for artists.

But who is this “we” I speak of? This year we have assembled a top notch Expo Team.

Jessica Brown is our Special Events Coordinator and was brought on specifically to do the Expo. She has planned events large and small from 25 to 50,000 peeps! Jessica is also known as Food Gnome . She loves farmer’s markets and cooking.

Cristina Ibarra is our Community Arts Coordinator. Cristina is coordinating the Four Corners Mural Project, Recruiting performers and working on the Symposium. (Of course that’s not all, but in the interest of brevity…)

Yesenia Sanchez is our Symposium Coordinator. Yesenia is a long time friend of Indy Arts and has presented numerous workshops in our DIY series. Yesenia is also a practicing coach who specializes in working artists.

Watch here for the story of The Tenth Annual Expo for Independent Arts. There will be many more musings to come.
