Mahalaya, meaning love and freedom, is a free community newspaper founded in June 2022. Powered by a staff of dedicated volunteers, this monthly publication centers Filipinx voices and experiences in and beyond the San Francisco Bay Area through solidarity journalism.
Mahalaya aims to inform and educate readers about issues concerning Filipinx in the United States and celebrate the work of the many entrepreneurs, artists, educators, and movement builders in the community.
Grounded in solidarity journalism, Mahalaya embodies an alternative practice of journalism that strives to not only support the rights, safety, and well-being of Filipinx but to continue to build and strengthen the Asian-American social justice movement of previous generations.
