For Latinx youth growing up in California's farmworker family housing, education is not a right but a struggle.
Each year, hundreds of Latinx youth across California's agricultural belt miss months of school, because they live with their families in one of the state's Migrant Family Housing Centers. These subsidized apartments require residents to move out each winter and relocate at least 50 miles away. The documentary, Como Vivimos (How We Live), spends a year in one such community, observing as families resiliently navigate these cycles of displacement which interrupt students' education and impede economic mobility.
Originally titled In-Between Places, this project was awarded one of California Humanities‘ California Documentary Project (CDP) grants in 2015 for research and development.
