R.O.G.E.R & Me is a feature film in pre-production, rooted in Richmond, CA. The story follows a young Black coding savant who, after a car accident, is sentenced to carry a goldfish everywhere for 30 days. While quirky on the surface, the film is a heartfelt meditation on grief, growth, and the unexpected ways life pushes us to connect.
The idea was inspired by my own experience of keeping a goldfish named Roger during a difficult chapter of my filmmaking journey — a symbol of resilience and responsibility that became the heart of this story. This project aims to challenge outdated stereotypes about Richmond by showcasing its creativity, resilience, and vibrancy. Filming will highlight local businesses, artists, and spaces while engaging the community through open casting calls, workshops, and local hiring.
More than a film, R.O.G.E.R & Me is a cultural investment — amplifying Richmond’s identity and uplifting its creative community.
